If you’re a web designer or graphic artist, you’ll spend the day working with files, folders and shared network locations where other users may drop data for you to draft up with the latest promotional literature. Problem is that it’s not always so easy, on a Windows machine at least, to locate and use the folders when they are scattered over various locations.
Virtual Folder is a commercial tool that enables you to create a virtual drive letter then assign folders to this drive. For example, you could have the drive letter ‘M:’ and then quickly assign your ‘My Documents’ folder, ‘Data’ from the network, ‘Fonts’ and more. If you then want quick access to the data on the network, you simply open the M: drive and the folders are immediately accessible.
As first, we thought this could have potential. Anything to help enhance productivity. However, if you have a file manager replacement, such as Directory Opus, it’s easy to get immediate access to your most important folders. Quickly drop them in to the toolbar or create a toolbar for these folders. Virtual Folder is an expensive tool at $29.95. You’d be better investing in an Explorer replacement tool. Alternatively, use the subst command line option to create your own virtual drive and simply assign the drive to your most widely used folders, such as the data folder on the network or even a remote online folder.
