Computing at 60,000 volts
Whatever could this be..?
Weighing in at a monstrous 1200 watts (and a monstrous 3.4 kilograms) the Decathlon had no problems posting or running any of our benchmarks.
This is mostly because of its specifications: it claims to deliver an epic 90 amps through its single 12 volt rail, as well as 40 amps through the 5 volt rail and another 40 through the 3.3 volt rail. Throughout our tests, we’ve found that single rail power supplies perform better than their multiple rail cousins, and this is the only 1KW and above PSU that uses a single 12 volt rail.
The only real problem we can see is how exactly you could harness the extra 12 volt headroom. It’s unlikely any system will draw close to as much power as we’ve seen it deliver. What’s more, with manufacturers doing their best to make their new hardware draw less power in an effort to keep heat down and Al Gore happy, it’s easy to class the Decathlon as excessive.
Of course, you could consider modding your case to include a cigarette lighter, or power several kilometers of fairy lights, or a beer fridge of some description. Mmm, beer.

5V – 40A
3.3V – 40A
