4890 Disassembly Guide

The gear

You'll need a few tools to get started here, as well as a few supplies.

  • Philips head screwdrivers, in very small sizes, preferably multiples for choice
  • Isopropyl alcohol (or your preferred thermal goop cleaner) and paper towel
  • Chair, and a large flat surface such as a table to work on
  • Replacement thermal paste for the core
  • Patience - getting frustrated may damage your card, so be careful

Take the card out of your rig, or out of the packaging, and place it on your table. There is almost nothing of interest to us on the front of the card; all the action is behind the PCB, so gently flip it over, placing it sticker-side down.

You should get something that looks like this (unless your card is a different cooler, or you're reading this after enough time has passed for there to be a PCB redesign) - we're interested in the ten screws around the outer edges of the card.

I think you mean "Being a Double-Slot card" as opposed to a "Single-Slot card"
