Star Trek interview

AtomicTV: Atomic's first ever video interview sees David Hollingworth chatting with James T. Kirk and Commander Spock.

When Star Trek premiered at the Sydney Opera House earlier this month, we were there - and what an experience it was. But we were also there the next day to chat to the film's stars - and it was a totally terrifying, immensely cool day.

We spoke with Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine first up - Spock and Kirk respectively. While the cameras were being set up, Chris and I chatted about local drinking spots and how hot Sydney women are. Then Zach joined us, and for the rest of the interview I simply did my best not to stare at his eyebrows.

They are made of something like hairy dwarf star matter - that's how dense they are. But I struggled through, and now, having finally seen the end product, I at least know to stop waving my arms all over the place - oh well, live and learn.

The final product, I think, is still pretty awesome, and I don't seem too terrified at all.

Whew!

Stay tuned for interviews with Karl Urban (Dr Bones McCoy), who is just the nicest guy ever, and John Cho (Hikaru Sulu) over the next week or so. And big mad GIANT kudos to forum denizen Chaos_Lady who did the edit and made sure I didn't look like a complete tool.

Why's it the wrong aspect ratio?

Otherwise, very cool. And gesticulation make it YOU, David!

As this is our first video, we're still ironing out some bugs - basically, the video was supplied (as requested) in 16.9, but our player can't handle that). Future iterations should be a little less... thinning :)

Orcone: I saved the phaser-stroking for Karl Urban.

didnt like the background sound effects (or is it crackling or static or something), was quite distracting - would be better with trek music or just the conversation..

apart from that i enjoyed the interview, well done

Was Eric Bana stolen by a rival magazine?

Really enjoyed that. And don't worry Dave, you certainly didn't come across as too nervous haha.

I will say, however, that these guys didn't seem to have much respect for the Star Trek fanbase. Maybe it's just me though.

Hand-waving was minimal-ish.
Enjoyment was large.

Great interview. :D

t8y: Sound effects? There weren't any that I could hear... I think it might be something on your system. No sound effects were laid over the interview.

Magnum: Ha! He was at the interview day, but very few journos got to talk to all the cast and crew. It was quite a complex operation :)

d3c4y: They were a little... flat, I must admit. But I also don't think they were used to this kind of media attention. Plus, they'd flown in, done a round of interviews, went to the premiere, went out, then did a round of interviews the next day. This interview was at nine in the morning. But, in truth, Karl Urban is a much better interview.

Tezlin: Aw. Cheers!

nevermind, just played on speakers (was on headphones before) and its less noticable. it seems to be some high frequency echo or something on their voices

nothing to worry about!

Trust me, he's not bad as Sylar, but he's brilliant as Spock.

Gonna watch this tomorrow.

I have been watching the original series on tape for the last few weeks to get myself psyched. And am already to watch it tomorrow.

On the hole, good interview Dave. And as much as the guys think that they aren't that attached to the franchise and it's fan base, they soon will be.

I'm not a trekkie, this clip will probably make more sense once I've watched the movie.
