As Paramount gears up for its next Star Trek film, here's our wishlist of what we'd like to see...
With the success of Star Trek, Paramount is gearing up for another one soon. Here are our ideas for what we'd like to see in the second outing of the franchise reboot.
1. KlingonsYep, we need some crab heads in their numerous D7 class cruisers and Birds-of-Prey, wielding their Bat'leth with one hand and a bowl of fresh qagh in the other. Maybe it's time for Kirk to knock heads with Kang, Koloth, and Kor. Personally, I'd love to see a Red October-style narrative where Kirk is forced to hunt down a rogue Klingon who wants to make peace with the Federation.
2. Transporter malfunctionsNot just the ones that turn people inside-out, but the cool variety that result in unintentional duplicates or materialising into the parallel dark universe populated with evil Kirk, Spock and Bones. Transporting people into solid objects, deep space and trapping them in the memory buffer can also be entertaining.
3. Harcourt Fenton "Harry" MuddThis archetypal conman (played by Roger C. Carmel, pictured) appeared twice in the original TV series, and he's fertile territory to revisit. The choices for who might play such a rich character are numerous. Jack Black has been mentioned already, but I'd like to see Bill Murray or John Lithgow (inset).
4. The Guardian of ForeverThis is the mechanism that is at the centre of the City At The Edge Of Forever episode, where images of the past (and future) appear and, when you jump through the ring, you can travel to any point in time. Yes, the first movie had time travel, but it's at the heart of science fiction. As an alternative to the slingshot around the sun, this could be a more interesting option.
5. Khan Noonien SinghThe genetically-engineered warrior from the Eugenics Wars is probably Kirk's greatest nemesis, when he defrosts this sociopath when he encounters his ship, Botany Bay. Sadly, Ricardo Montalban (pictured) is no longer with us, so who would play this charming monster? That's a difficult one, although Antonio Banderas (inset) does spring to mind for some curious reason.
