Huzzah! A mod for Far Cry 2! No... wait, it's not. Stupidly, Ubi decided not to allow gamers to mod Far Cry 2, beyond a simple map editor. This is why there are no Far Cry 2 mods, and the game has already been forgotten and lost in the tears of time.
And yet, there are still Far Cry mods being developed, and people still buy the game to play them - such as Delta Sector.
When Delta Sector was released it was met with tones of 'That's the Far Cry engine? You jest!' And yet jesting was not on the agenda. Awesomeness was. Check out the trailers on YouTube (search for 'Delta Sector') and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were looking at Crysis.
Better yet, dig up your copy of Far Cry and go download it. It's 350M for the core file and another 70M for the 1.1 patch. Unfortunately the homepage for the mod (tds.platinumgold.de) is down at the time of writing so head to the moddb link (see URL above) to grab it.
And beyond the graphics, what's your premise this time for shooting up the local gentry? You're a special forces agent checking out some shenanigans in Eastern Europe. And, er, that's all you need to know. But the mod comes with single player missions (each set in its own environment), multiplayer mode, and a range of weapons and baddies to play with. Did I mention it makes Cryengine 1 look like Cryengine 2? That means it'll run fast on any system, too.
Give it a shot; better than a date this weekend. Unless you're dating Dave H, then you could be forgiven (uh... -ed).
