Gallery: Atomic hit Melbourne pretty hard for the latest Unlocked show. Some of us are still recovering...

Well, Atomic Unlocked Melbourne edition was a success.

Much beer was drunk, shiny pub food nommed, and many questions were asked of our guests from Avermedia, Intel, Kingston and Team Immunity. There was a mess of prizes handed out, from Intel K-series processors, to 3D cards from Avermedia, and a mess of Kingston RAM and SSD products. There were laughs, there was fragging, and I even finally managed to beat Fredzfrog in a game of foozball.

It was, seriously, an awesome time.

The show itself was a hoot, kicking off with our Ultimate Atomican Quiz, before getting straight into the nitty gritty with Intel's rep on the night, Thomas Tapsas. He was great, talking all about Intel's future plans and even dropping a few hints about some as yet unannounced CPU products that had Dinos22 drooling!

Kev Hartin was up next, from Altech, and he told us all about Avermedia's 3D product range. It was a great, freewheeling talk on the hardware, 3D entertainment, and silly AFL rules.

Seriously, guys - it's called overtime!

Finally, we spoke with Team Immunity's Tony Trubridge about the state of pro-gaming and just exactly what it takes to make the leap to the pro-circuit.

After that, it was back to the pub for some old fashioned catching up and hanging out. It was a great night, and huge thanks to our generous sponsors, and to all who showed up. See you again next time!

That was such poop. I knew the answer to the last question in the quiz at the beginning... but I was out way before you got to it!

I thought my kid was a bit of a cool nerd (can I say that?). This was disproved the moment Thomas began speaking of SSD's and Josh said, "What's he talking about?"

The burning question I had was... Were Intel just popping a gpu into the cpu to piss AMD off or purely because they see a market to gobble up?

I didn't get to ask because there were so many freaking questions on f**king SSD's! Well. they're little memory chips on a circuit board. There's also a controller IC on the same board. They're faster than HDD's. They cost more than HDD's. No they wont get much cheaper, capacity will increase. If you want to know if Trim is working, do some research. If you want to RAID, Trim wont work, do some research, etc etc.

It was however a good night with plenty of laughs.

Thanks to all who made the effort to put it all together. Also, I was pissed off no one commented on my Planet Express t-shirt -- you all suck :p

I shoulda stayed up the back looking cool and never put my hands on my head. Dammit. No 3rd place prize..

And when it came to Counter Strike... the key map setup sucked. Never did find out which key was mapped to zoom, and couldn't get used to pressing C instead of Ctrl. Otherwise, that guy wouldn't have stood a chance.

Plus, I missed half the talk because I couldn't get out of work quick enough. And my wife had a stomach ache and demanded we leave early.

Aside from all that though, it was a fun night. :)
