E3 2011 Gallery: There was some serious heavy metal on the World of Tanks stand at E3, and we couldn't resist a few photos...
We are thoroughly and deeply addicted to World of Tanks.
It scored a Hot Award from us in the current issue (and it's got a huge following on our forums!), and we're playing at least a couple of hours each day, trying to research new guns, upgrade our crew, and generally destroy as many enemy tanks as we humanly can.
So, we were very happy to see that not only did the just-released game have a presence at E3, it had a heavy metal presence - three vintage World War II tanks, on the stand and on the street outside the convention center!
First up, a Hetzer, a medium German tank destroyer. TDs, if you're not in the know, were designed predominantly as stalkers and ambush vehicles, and lacked a turret (except for US TDs, which were all about speed and maneuverability). Instead, they had sloped armour to deflect shots and a very low, stealtthy profile.
There were two medium tanks, too - trusty US Sherman, and a Russian T-34. These are more general purpose tanks, that combine speed, fire-power and armour to be able to bring firepower to bear fast.
Whether you like the game or not, there's no denying these tanks are pretty cool. Check out our gallery for all our pics, and keep an eye out for more E3 shots in the coming days.
