Microsoft and Razer announce the Gaming Snake

The input device formerly known as a mouse will hit stores soon. And crikey, isn’t she a beauty.

Microsoft has partnered with Razer to produce a new gaming mouse which should be in stores at some point between now and soon. It’s called the Habu, which is also the name of a Japanese Snake. We think they missed a perfect opportunity to call it the Lucy Liu, or for that matter the O-Ren Ishii.

It’s based on the Razer Copperhead design. It weighs 122 grams, is powered by an always-on laser which samples at 2000 DPI (and can be adjusted to operate at 400, 800 and 1600 DPI) and sports seven programmable buttons. Up to five different profiles can be stored on the mouse’s internal memory.

Its most striking feature, however, is that it comes with two interchangeable side panels. This gives you two side button layouts, and although it’s still a contraption for right handers only, using the Habu should statistically be more comfortable than using other mice.

It’s priced at $129.95, but if that’s too much for you, the new Intellimouse Explorer 3 has also been released. It’s been redesigned, both ergonomically and aesthetically, and has improved mouse feet. It also costs significantly less, at $59.95. It too should be available sometime between now and soon.
