New FAQ, plus site news

The Frequently Asked Questions have had a makeover, and there's a couple of new/old faces to meet and greet.

As some of the more observant amongst you may have noticed, we have a new FAQ for the site and forums. For those who’ve not noticed, you might want to go check it out.

It’s not a huge change, only really a few tweaks here and there. We’ve made more plain certain things we feel very strongly about, while in other areas we’ve deliberately made things a little more vague. In the past, the mods and I have felt at times that our hands have been tied by the FAQ, either forcing us to react harshly when we’d rather act with kid gloves, or not allowing us enough latitude to drop a tonne of bricks on someone when necessary.

Hopefully, the new FAQ will help us provide better and more flexible moderation, and provide you – the users of this grand endeavour – with a better experience to boot. I recommend that all users give it a thorough read, and try to take to heart the message that lies at the core of the FAQ, and at the core of Atomic. We are all here to have fun, to enjoy the company of a rare and beautiful group of people, to talk tech, to share news, and to shoot the breeze; to engage in lively debate, to laugh at the good times, and find a shoulder to cry on in the bad. That’s Atomic.

What it is not is a place to troll, a place to sling racial slurs or show off how much smarter/better looking/cooler you are than everyone else. We’re Atomicans – we’ve already proven we are people of rare wit, intelligence and discernment; please, leave your ego at the door.

I’ve also got a couple of other great announcements to make. First and foremost, I’d like to welcome David Field to the fold as the official Atomic online guy, providing news, views and other things that rhyme with shoes to the site. Many of you already know him as Faldo, so give him a warm welcome.

And keep the warm fuzzies coming for the auspicious return of Hulkster as a site moderator. He’s been off on a training break, and he’s come back bigger, tougher, more mod-like than ever before.

Huzzah for Atomic! Huzzah! Huzzah!
