Windows 7 confirmed for 2010

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 will be with us "sometime in 2010" and appears to have released screenshots into the blogsphere.

A spokesperson said the release date of the successor to Windows Vista will ultimately be decided by, "meeting the quality bar".

Client versions of Windows 7 will ship in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours. A server version with the original title of Windows Server 7, is also being looked at.

Microsoft is keeping deadly quiet about Windows 7 in case more punters decide that is probably worth waiting three years rather than buying the disappointing and lacklustre Vista.

Screens of some of the early versions are starting to leak onto the Internet. They do not tell us much, other than it looks like Microsoft really has started to copy Apple's desktop.

I noticed that straight away... I noticed a few things like that with vista too, but there is no harm in innovation, it's quite acceptable in any design industry. Of course MS is going to put their branding on it all and it will have the MS feel too it (apple does tend to feel smooth and elegant, where as windows has the cold heart of a machine with skin stretched over it, to make it somehow 'user friendly'). Lets be honest with ourselves, MS haven't released a decent OS since 2k, so chances are this will be a steaming pile too; not to say that it doesn't have potential to be fantastic, but it will be filled with inherent flaws. However it seems that with constant updating any OS can be usable. For instance, XP was terrible when it was released now a lot of gamers still swear by it and curse vista (i still remember when all I used to hear was xp is rubbish 2k is where it's at). gg
