Day of Defeat not forgotten!

After a long time in the doldrums, Valve's classic WW2 shooter gets an update.

Big news from Valve! Day of Defeat, the always sadly forgotten cousin of the world-conquering CounterStrike, has been updated!

After years on the same map rotation, we're finally getting a new official playground of Garand mayhem. Palermo - inspired by a popular community map - is a five objective capture map with an obvious Italian feel. Think of Anzio, but with all new ways of biffing the Bosch.

DoD is also now properly integrated into the wider Steam Community, with stats tracking and over 50 new Achievements to rack up.

Finally, a freeze cam has been implemented to show players just who sniped them and where they're hiding their lily-livered (or highly skilled, depending on your views on camping capture points) arses.

It's all part of a free play weekend for the game, so it's a great time to get to know this classic, or to return if you've been distracted by newer titles. I know I'll be logging on for some Thompson time this weekend. Keep an eye out for Hawkeye.
