Eeeeeee! Linux is ready for the Eee!

Dave Field runs round in girlish excitement.

Apologies for the rubbish headline.

If you've got an EeePC (any EeePC) and want a proper version of Linux -- instead of one that only gives you root access if you ask it to in a stern voice -- you'll be glad to know that somebody else who wanted the same thing has done something about it.

Jon Ramvi has created a Ubuntu distribution for Linux. The kernell's lighter (thanks to a coder named Adam) so it boots faster and everything works.

Yes, you could do this before, but you had a whole stack of configuration problems that have since been fixed and properly rolled into a nice distribution.

The release candidate is out now, and you can get it here. His blog is probably getting hammered, but he's posted this:

"The permission problem is probably gone when it’s installed. I’m going to test that now. If it looks ok, I’m going to release a release candidate. If the permission problem or any other important bug can be fixed within 24 hours, the RC won’t go gold. If there’s no quick fixes, the exact same version as the release candidate goes gold."

Well, he's since fixed that permission bug, and nothing has changed in roughly 12 hours. By our calculations, that leaves roughly 12 hours until the release goes gold.
