Welcome to Atomic

Your favourite enthusiast computing and gaming site has just finished levelling up. Ding!

Things are a little different around the Atomic site today.

Actually, things are very different, but one thing has remained the same – our commitment to bring you best in tech news and reviews, gaming of all kinds, and the latest cutting edge technology advances. If anything, with our new site we are going to bring you more of the stuff you love, and a lot more besides.

So what’s new? Well, the new design should be pretty obvious, and we all think our developers have done a pretty bang up job of bringing Atomic into the modern web age. What’s more, many of the changes around the site are reflected in the latest issue of the magazine; the Atomic family is now more tightly integrated than ever.

And then, of course, there’s content. The big new changes are that the site is now capable of displaying cool things like image galleries, proper group tests, and far more detailed review scoring across the board. We’ve even introduced Reader Reviews to the site, so if you have an opinion, sharing it is now easier than ever.

And then, of course, there’s the forums... we’ve completely ditched the old, hand-crafted and time-worn code and replaced it with a shiny new, fully featured and modern forum package. We’ve also re-arranged things a little in terms of topics and such, so that it’s now a slightly cleaner set of topics that make more sense for the way the old forums were being used anyway. All your old details should have been moved across, so you better get used to the new place – click the link above and you’ll be whisked away.

Finally, in celebration of this great new day for Atomic, I would like to extend a personal invitation to all previously banned members - an amnesty. It’s a clean slate for Atomic, and it can be a clean slate for you too. Just... play nice, okay? Email me if you’re interested in this one-time only offer to rejoin the Atomic Forums.

And that’s it, really. Have a look around the new site, and check out the forums. Write a review and share your opinions with us.

Welcome to Atomic.

OOoooo. Shiny. Looks like a new fangled website now, and not like the sort they issued us with back in the war.

Whippersnappers these days. Don't know how good they've got it.

Site looks fantastic!

In a shocking change of tradition we have a redesign that works perfectly in Opera.

Mmm, shiny.

Awesome upgrade guys!

You managed to move forward from the more plain/flat black and green atomic layout to something edgier and sleeker looking without sacrificing that great atomic style =D

GRTZ ON DING!

I like it. It's not too bad on the eyes (then again - neither was the previous design), and it makes finding different articles fair easy.

I do miss the forum selection bar on the left, though.

Woo! it looks great, the old hand coded may have been cool, but languishing in dev hell isnt very atomic.

It's just about sacrilege not to have hand crafted forums isn't it? I remember the good ol days when you V1.0 (or was it 1.5) went haywire and cross posted everything...now that was a barrel of monkeys :D, and the security flaw that had everyone change their password. A whole 90 pixels for avatar now you say...well in my day we only had 64…tut tut :)

I like the new look although its taking a bit to get used to and I really like that the forums have been reorganised by and large.

Now we just need to some enthusiasm back in the tech areas. Anyone got any stats on posts per day / what areas posts were made over the lifetime of these forums…would be very interesting to see.

Yarrago

P.S. Is there any way to get back to the old forums...or am I just living in the past :).

Personally I feel that this site is now a complete balls up. The old site was pretty much just right. The new one just looks like everything else and has little to no character.

Also, what happened to all the photography posts?

HHHMmmmm, I can't edit that post above so...

edit: now that my knee has finished jerking, I still don't like the look of the current site. I understand something had to be done due to various users having various problems with various things so, if we could get something with the new workings and the old look and feel then that would be just super.

Gah, I hate it. Too bright, looks like every other god-forsaken piece o' shit PHP forum on the intarwebs.

Sure, it's still atomic, and I'll continue to hit the console forum up for a good argument or 3 with the regular lads, but jeez... this is a vicious upgrade for the senses.

Also, black on white = hardcorefail.

OMG! Thank you for getting rid of the solid colours.
From a old web printers view, its much better and I like the way it auto expands and fills my 32" LCD.

Dont listen to 'em Atomic!

I think the sight looks absolutely FANTASTIC!

It was never going to be easy to make the transition from such a 'traditional' layout and design but I think you've done an outstanding job!

Congratulations to all - I look forward to poking around all the new bits and bobs all of today!

Huzzah! ;)
