Last week he was touting the resurgence of Apple Computer as an appliance company, and now whacky Larry Ellison, CEO of uber-software company Oracle, is wild about biotechnology. So wild in fact, that if he were a 21 year old today, he would ignore computers and get into bio-research. 'I'd go into genetic engineering... molecular biology research... (If) you have a chance to cure malaria, (it would) affect the lives of millions.'

Of course, bio-scientists are aghast at receiving Ellison's support. 'That guy? Gee whiz, he can't even grow a proper beard, let alone predict anything. My God, the man just put research back a decade,' said one be-spectacled researcher who would not reveal his name lest Mr Ellison start paying him personal attention. 'Hmm-whey,' added the researcher, in an absent-minded afterthought.

In other biotechnology news, no doubt released before Ellison doomed the entire field to obscurity, MSNBC features an interesting report by Arthur Caplan, Ph.D, Director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. He claims that the most important breakthrough that the cracking of the human genome offers us is not what it means for our future, but for what it confirms about our past. His controversial view is that the human genome shows clear and irrefutable proof of Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution.

Ook, ook.
