Isao Okawa, 73 year old President of Japan's Sega Corporation, shuffled off this mortal console coil just before the weekend. At the time of his death Okawa was not overseeing the day to day management of the company, though in the last year or two he has been a figure of some inspiration to Sega employees - he had spent about $US500 million on the company to try and bolster its failing fortunes.

Mr Okawa died of heart failure in hospital, no doubt due to complications arising from his struggle against cancer, but we at atomic prefer to look at this a little differently. Like a good console game, we must all face trails and tribulations in life. Look at them like you do an end of level boss - if your workmate starts dissing you, marvel at his picture perfect animation and then proceed to show him your special Punch, Forward, Forward, Kick combo until he stops annoying you. I like to think that Isao Okawa has faced his final boss, the biggest baddest collection of pixels the game of life can throw at you, and that he beat the snot out of the guy.

Now the end-game credits are rolling, and I'm pretty sure that Okawa has posted an impressive high score.
