The Canadians have a problem with time. What's it all aboot, I here you ask in your best fake Canadian accent? Well,for one thing, real Canadians rarely say aboot, nor aye, for that matter. Nonetheless, the problem with time still stands - the much vaunted Millennium Clock outside Ottawa's National Research Center is plain slow.

Actually, the clock is fine, but the software that translates the hyper-accurate readings of the cesium powered atomic clock for display that is the culprit. Every Sunday, apparently, since daylight savings finished, the clock's display would lose an hour - but, at the very least, it was one very accurate hour. So, despite the high price tag of the set-up - something in the realm of $US26,000 - the clock's keepers have had to reset it like a cheap wristwatch every Monday morning for the last month.

The clock, which boasts that it "celebrates Canada's rich history of leadership in timekeeping" is due to be dismantled some time this year - assuming that the people pulling it down are not relying on Canada's official timepiece to get to work on time.
