Phenom II prices listed

Local pricing upped, then downed.

Local Australian e-tailer, Austin Computers, has listed the upcoming Deneb-based Phenom II 920 and 940 processors on its site, which for some reason is currently off-line.

According to the merchant, the unlocked 3GHz/2MB+6MB cache Phenom II 940 will cost $532, while the 2.8GHz multiplier-locked Phenom II 920 will be a tad lower at $471.90 - and that's local pacific pesos, kids.

The (current) cheapest Core i7 on the market, the 920 clocked stock at 2.66GHz, costs $569 According to our last look at StaticICE, which is close to Intel's pricing, but still competitive.

Pundits and hacks alike have no real idea how the Deneb core will measure up to Nehalem in the end, but the pricing looks ambitious if you consider its predecessor’s pedigree, and the initial reports we're getting from early testing around the world.

Maybe the fuss that's being made about the overclocking ability has a part in this: most fans will skip the 920 and go straight to the overclocker-titillating 940... you won’t really be paying much for the privilege, now will you?

We’d point you towards the necessary URL, but it seems that the whole site has been down for a bit. However, some clever chap capped the whole affair and posted it on Imageshack, which you can find here. However, adding a bit of substance to the affair, Static Ice, our own pricing partner, also retrieved the listing for the upcoming January 8th processors. You can find the listing here.

We are currently trying to contact Austin Computers for their comment.

Pricing is significantly off from the proposed figures at the Austin Tech Day - engineering samples aren't even in the country yet much less confirmed retail pricing.

True the retail prices are still under NDA as they may be changed prior to the January launch but even with a weak AUD, those prices are off the mark.

I think it's funny how AMD have named their product line so similarly to Intels. These old tricks are just classic.

Im glad to see a fair pricing here for AMD's little chippies, as I was reading a thread on OCAU I think and someone said that AMD's top model the 940 was going to be 40% the cost of Intels best the Corei7 965 (2000+) and I was thinking $800!!!! Bloody hell AMD are confident... Looks like I'll be waiting a while for one of these! But nay, things look decent. Also looks like the NDA is over so soon.

DH, when will you have one of these new Phenom II's, so you can tell us about how good they are.
