It looks look the Milky Way's days are numbered. The galaxy that has so ably served as our home for billions of years is careening toward the Andromeda galaxy on collision course which can only mean disaster for all concerned.

Start digging galaxy shelters in your backyard, 'cause it really is all over. Sure, in about five billion years our sun's going to burn off it's hydrogen and go Red Giant, likely burning to a cinder every planet in the solar system anyway, but even if we get out by then and colonise the galaxy, Andromeda's going to run us down in about 16 billion years.
