Microsoft has received the 2001 Webby Award for achievement in technology and creativity. This was voted on by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Science. But before the Linux devotees get their noses out of joint, the award was given specifically for the Windows Update Web Site, which is used for downloading product updates for the Windows Operating System.

This “feature” of Windows, (which as we all know, doesn't send any information to Microsoft…ahem) takes you to the award winning web site, scrutinises your Windows configuration and recommends various updates *cough*bug fixes*cough* and added features.

Full points to Microsoft on this one though. The website performs over 60 million updates per month, in 27 different languages. They were up against 4 other nominees: www.nttdocomo.com, www.popularpower.com, www.quickbase.com and www.rocketnetwork.com.
