French arrogance smacked down by US Judge

‘Go suck eggs’ US federal judge Jeremy Fogel was quoted as saying, after being asked for his opinion on how the French courts would react after his landmark ruling.

'Go suck eggs' US federal judge Jeremy Fogel was quoted as saying, after being asked for his opinion on how the French courts would react after his landmark ruling.

Well, he didn't really say that, but we're sure that's what Judge Fogel was thinking when he ruled that Yahoo was not bound to pay fines imposed by a French court for allowing French citizens to view Nazi memorabilia on Yahoo's US based web site.

Thankfully, it seems that at least someone in the legal profession possesses common sense when it comes to the Internet and technology in general. After such farcical situations as the Dmitry Sklyarov case, Australia's Internet censorship laws, and the frankly idiotic SSSCA, we were beginning to loose faith in the world's legal beagles. Fingers crossed that Judge Fogel's common sense will prevail upon other judges when it comes to new Net and tech related laws being considered in the US after the Sept. 11 tragedy.
