Perhaps it's a dose of Tall Poppy syndrome. Maybe it's jealousy over losing a large EarthLink contract to an upcoming rival. Or, it could just be competition via the courtroom – an increasingly common practice in America today. Whatever the underlying motivation, advertising company Overture has sued popular search engine company Google over patent infringement in regards to the company's paid listing advertisement technique.

A Google spokesperson earlier stated the company has analysed the patent infringement claim and determined no infringements have occurred.

The suit follows one by Overture earlier this year against search engine FindWhat.com. Currently FindWhat is awaiting a decision from a US Federal court on whether Overture's patent is 'invalid and unenforceable' as the company has previously claimed.
