CES 2009
: Odd new case design from the masters of enthusiast PC cases...
We <3 Lian Li at Atomic, and have done ever since we froze one in a solid block of ice over the space of days for a cover shoot way back in the first year of publication. They're sleek, sexy, and packed with features.
Well, the new PC-888 is, um, still feature-packed, at least.
Fresh from CES we've got these shots of Lian Li's latest, and it's an odd beast to say the least. Blue, oddly curved with seemingly random bits of metal, we're still not sure if we like it. We'll look at in one minute and gag; then, the next glance reveals a certain quirky charm.
We've not seen one in the flesh, sadly, but for now we do have this spec list straight from the horse's mouth:
• Unique limited edition design.
• SATA Hot swappable HDD cage.
• Support RAID with six (6) HDDs.
• Extra long PSU support bracket.
• Removable Motherboard Tray.
• Easy access card reader and Multimedia ports.
• Extreme ventilation on front bezel and rear panel.
• Manually assembled from 125 custom designed parts.
• Takes more than 4 times longer to assemble than a standard case.
• 100 per cent aluminum construction, more than three times more expensive material than standard steel.
Hmm. We're not sure that last one's a boasting point, but hey, whatcha gonna do. Check out more shots of the PC-888 in our gallery.
Want to check out the first Australian review of Final Fantasy XIII? We got in this month's Atomic!
Plus HD projectors, Napoleon: Total War, Intel's new six-core processor, PC upgrading guide, and a whole lot more.

Wow, its ugly.
I have a couple of Lian Li cases but I wouldn't buy that one.
Ever.

Yeah, I don't think the blue is doing the case any favours.

Whats that "doodad" at the top?

If it came in a copper colour... then it would look fantastic. And kind of like the Bell Tower in Perth.
However my concern is that if you have a SATA Optical Drive, that it may be hard for someone to stretch a SATA cable all the way down to the bottom edge of a mobo... unless you some of those 75cm ones... although I would prefer them to be supplied with the case.

Reminds me of a vacuum cleaner. All Lian Li need to do is put on a handle and a couple of wheels

Every so often Lian Li come out with something totally quirky ... remember the 'snail-style' case from a few years ago? The PC-777 20th Anniversary Memorial Case.
Interesting design concept, but just different for the sake of being different.
This one should have been called the 'Machu Picchu' - and the "doodad at the top" used to sacrifice CPU's.
Or virgin booth babes (if such an anomaly exists).

@ CAP. LMAO good comment.
Looks like a vacuum cleaner. Probably has the power of a vacuum cleaner to =P You can always mod the case and put a handle on it :D

Add some wheels to it and it could look like a drone from Star Wars

I believe its design is based on Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

Don't love em that much IMO. You rated the same case twice against Lian Li. Some gay Silverstone case.

I like it. You could really make your case a feature with that design.
Certainly not for everybody though, and yeah... the blue is very blue. But I could do it I reckon, except a few years ago I bought an Antec Plusview 2 and it just does EVERYTHING I need. I'd love to get a new case but really, why waste the cash when what I got does what I need?
Still looks good too, except for the damn flipping door. I will never buy a case with a door again.
