Good one Steve!

Now, ne1 else got mad Atomic movie skilz? EDIT - Steven has sent through a nice bit of background covering the 'making of' the movie, here tis: Atomic Movie The students of eCentral TAFE Western Australia originally approached PCAuthority for some needed sponsorship to assist them in their end of year Industry Expo for the Diploma of Technology (Interactive Multimedia). After some discussion it was decided the students could treat it like a real client exercise and made it their final assignment for the Animation Advanced module by producing a fully-animated cartoon using Macromedia Flash 5. It was up to the students imagination and creativity to produce the movie with PCAuthority setting the initial storyline. The Storyline: “Captain Atomic relaxes after kicking Super Villain butt by relaxing with a video game. Suddenly, a highly localised instability in 'n-space' causes Captain Atomic to enter the game he was playing and become part of the game world” The animation brief also included further instructions set by the instructor to determine the student's level of 'underpinning knowledge' of Macromedia Flash and it's basic operation. The animation would include: · Animated text in the form of opening and closing credits/titles. · Movie clips (a special timeline in a movie that permits any object to be inserted within it). · Sound / Music. · Good quality lip synchronisation. · Lighting effects incorporated with the motion of objects. · Effective rotoscoping example incorporated in the story somewhere. (Rotoscoping is a process which involves tracing stages of movement from live-action film, to attain a realistic motion in animation or visual effects.) · Supporting documentation (Storyboards and other documentation). A maximum of 60 seconds was recommended due to the work load but not enforced. Building the animation: by Steven Eatt The creation involved many hours of drawing to build the storyboards. These were later scanned and used as templates to draw the final line work using Flash tools only. Rotoscoping involved video capture, which was later exported as separate images to the required fps (frames per second) to match the Flash timeline, traced and coloured to suit the theme. Flash Action script was used in the preloader, buttons and a couple of places within the movie to control the starting point of some movie clips. (Tiny Atomic in the credits is also a rollover with my contact email.) To get a feel for the Light Cycle's shape it was originally drawn in Newteks Lightwave 3D software. The required camera angle was then captured, traced and coloured in Flash. (This would also make continuing scenes easier to draw.) Sound editing was prepared using Sound Forge. The sound captures were normalized and in some case the pitch changed.
