Maksym retells the tale of Atomic and OCAU. Last game was a draw, and the sides are tied -- who will be victorious. Photos included!

Sydney Atomic's regular LAN hangout, Matchrix, held its 4th Battle @ Matchtix with team Atomic against team Overclockers Australia (OCAU). The tournament up until that night was a draw – each side had a win and one draw. The night would produce a winner, but sadly for us it was OCAU. It was a deserving victory, but not the one we had hoped for.

Atomic showed its support too, with Tim (the 'Designer') and Nathan (meatbites) and Ben ('sif you don't know who he is!) also rocking up for the night. It was a great turn out and despite our defeat everybody enjoyed themselves, with several taking home prizes for their valiant efforts.

The first game of the night was Vietcong. After team Atomic took the first game 2-0, spirits were high -- and so were some players. ArcaneMagik deserves a Medal of Commendation for his part in evading 'charlie' and scoring both our points.

After an intense second round, OCAU managed to pull ahead with outstanding teamwork and take the match 4-0. Due to their overall victory, the Vietcong round went to deserving champions, OCAU.
A break was had, nicotine inhaled, refreshments drunk, and junk food consumed. The oil on our fish and chips was as thick as the jungles of Vietnam. Thankfully, no one suffered a heart condition and the next game began.

Next in the tourney was Battlefield 1942 -- Desert Combat. A local favourite, we even had Mr Mansill on our team. We got off to a good start, our tanks were hitting hard and our choppers were like airborne sharks. Unfortunately we couldn't hold the line like Maximus, and our guard went down. OCAU knew how to play well as a team and edged out in front, taking the BF1942 -- DC round of the night.

After loosing 2/3 games spirits were down, but it didn't dampen our thirst for revenge and victory.

Quake 3 Arena was next on the agenda. Unlike Vietcong or Battlefield, there wasn't a need for team skills whatsoever -- which was seemingly to our advantage. If it wasn't dressed in red, we put a rail slug through its head, or fed it rockets. And on occasion, plasma as well. Needless to say, like previous FFA games we've played, team Atomic wiped the floor. Credit must go to Chancellor and Ycros who rocket-jumped and wall-climbed our team to victory, racking up the most frags for the night.

On what was to be a bittersweet note, OCAU proved to be the better contenders for the night and deservedly so. Well done gentlemen -- all our bases are belong to you. Afterwards, we all thought it wise to drown our sorrows in a pint of ale. Although we didn't have busty tavern wenches serving us, everybody enjoyed themselves.

While OCAU took out the Battle @ Matchrix 4 tourney, and are now in the lead, there are still many places left on the trophy for team Atomic to brand their names onto. We will all be back to reclaim what is rightfully ours.

I'll leave you with these parting words in the spirit of Cats, 'You are on the way to destruction, make your time!'
