Sennheiser HD800 Audiophile Headphones

We give our impressions of the mind-warpingly good quality of the Sennheiser HD 800 kit.

When you hear the name Sennheiser, you'd probably associate them right off the bat with high quality audio in pretty much every sector of the market that has anything at all to do with it - they're quite literally experts in those tantalising waves.

Last night, Atomic was invited to have a listen to these Audiophile headphones not only because they're the best thing since canned wine (not that canned wine is good, we just like it as a novel idea), but because they are Sennheiser's highest ranking headphones.

The History
Sennheiser started their design process on the HD 800's about seven years ago. Bringing everything back to basics, they built them from the ground up to emphasise the awesome quality and incredible design that have since emerged today.

A team of 25-35 people worked on this headset at any given time, even three soundstage designers present intermittently to reproduce the most accurate sound positioning they can in a headphone. The reasoning behind this is that stereo monitors are positioned slightly angled towards your ears - so naturally they just twisted the driver around as well.

Keep reading to check out the specs of these babies.

"6 - 51,000Hz" frequency response. In headphones.

Wow.

Just... wow.

I own the HD600 and have had them for over the past 5yrs.
I can say they are worth every penny (even got a Sennheiser T-Shirt and a groovy black box hinged! and fully foamed for full protection, with it). The sound re-production is just amazing, it makes everything sound......different......and more importantly, better!
I'm a huge Sennheiser fan thanks to the HD600 (and wear the T-Shirt proudly :P ). I wouldn't mind having the opportunity to listen to the HD800. That would be something special :)

For $2500 - I'd demand a refund If I didn't receive an orgasm EVERY time I placed them over my ears. A Tantric orgasm at that.

I scored eargasms when I first put on my HD280s, so I can only imagine the awesomeness of these 'phones.

Of course, they're worth more than my car...
