Mass Effect 2 in sight!

The sequel to Mass Effect could be gracing shelves later this year - intergalactic win!

In a conference call with US journalists, EA CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that Mass Effect 2 will be released in the fourth quarter of 2009.

While we'd love to regale you with tales of exciting new features and locales, really, all we know is that it's coming to PC and Xbox 360. Hell, we're not even sure of the timing of the two platform releases. Bioware's involvement is also not yet confirmed, but we're going to assume that's a gimme - can you imagine anyone else taking up the mantle?

Regardless of what we do and don't know, we still think this is awesomely good news. Mass Effect was one of the best RPGs we've ever played (both versions, no less), and we're tempted to celebrate the good news with a third run through.

This must be why they never fixed their broken patch for the first game. Too busy already working on the 2nd.

I'm really torn about this. For one, I really loved the first, but I could never even access the expanded content, because you had to install the patch, which broke the sound for those with a realtek sound chip. Which is only like, oh, 88% of us. Still waiting for another patch. And there's no answer on the official forums from anyone, but a heck of a lot of whinging about the problem from the fans.

It really annoys me how they're still releasing patches for NWN, but they won't for Mass Effect.

But back to my original point, it's an excellent game. Probably the best time I've had with an RPG to date.
