Amazon try their hand at online game downloads

Can this challenge the current best - Steam - at their own game?

Amazon are a pretty massive organism, spreading themselves throughout the internet in pretty much any area that they can sell you something.

One area that they hadn't gotten into yet was online distribution of games, something that has been covered for quite a few years now by a couple of services and our personal favourite - Valve's Steam service.

That in mind, you'd expect Amazon to have jumped into the deep end straight away, offering the very latest games for download that appeal to the most hardcore gamers, and some for the casuals too.

Only thing is, they've only offered casual games, a glut of which is both amusing and very puzzling - why did we need games such as Spandex Force, Yummy Drink Factory or Fairy Treasure?

For US$6.99 or US$9.99 per game, there's over 600 games here, but absolutely nothing that seems worth playing. It's definitely worth a look though - if only to remind us to be thankful for the really good games out there.

Head over to Amazon's site to check them out.

How about you get this thinly disguised ad for Amazon off Atomic please?
If it's shit, we don't need to hear about it >_<

Hey, chill there, Lord. There's this thing called 'news', and every now and then we feel the need to report it!

Lord-Ezekiel I don't really see how this is an ad for Amazon. Quite your whinging mate, the guys here are doing an awesome job (unlike the APC website which seems to have a distinct lack of website updates these days).

Sorry dudes, hadn't had my morning (afternoon!) coffee yet :P

Just was reading a bit like "well Amazon's selling games now but there all crap so who cares anyway" so i just thought, indeed, who does care?
Then again, i'm sure there's someone that will buy them dodgy games, there always someone... o_O

meh! I agree with Lord-Ezekiel, why report news when it's on something of no interest? News is supposed to be interesting.........isn't it?
