The games of New York Comic Con redux

NYCC may be over for another year, but we're still catching up with all the great games that got previewed over the con's run.

We touched on the first batch of big games previewed at the New York Comic Con earlier in the week, but that was just hte start. NYCC is fast becoming a mini-E3 in its right (with a lot more cosplay, which we're not sure is a good or a bad thing). Here's our final wrap of the best games to look out for!

Red Faction: Guerilla (Volition)
This is the third in the series of games made famous for the level of destruction players can inflict on the environment. I remember spending hours in the physics demo of the first game, and this latest iteration is looking even more spectacular from a blow-stuff-up perspective.

This time around nearly everything in the environment can be destroyed, and, what's more, once you knock a building down it stays down! The physics of these detonations is so natural that not a single building you gleefully detonate will blow up the same way twice.

And, as an extra bonus, the game's engine looks super detailed, and the game itself seems pretty top notch too. Bonus.

Velvet Assassin (Reply Studios)
We're still not sure about this one. Our man at E3 saw this WW2 stealth title and thought it looked promising, but everything we're hearing out of NYCC suggests the game still needs a lot of work before its April release date.

Still, the game's already got some nice touched going for it. As a stealth-based shooter, cover and hiding is very important. To let players know when they are nearing or in cover, the main character - the leather-clad Violette Summer - will glow a soft blow. Not a bad way to subtly alert players to a changing environment, but we'll reserve judgement until we see it in action some more.

The game's also very simulationist in its approach to ballastics modelling. In other words, you get shot, you'll die. It's an approach we kinda like, but it might turn out to be frustrating depending on how hardcore the stealth elements are.
