Server go BOOM!

Essential linkage: Everyone likes explosions. Everyone likes big-iron hardware. What happens when you combine them...

It's no secret that most people like to watch things blowing up. Whether that thing is a racing car crashing into flames at 200mph in a Grand Prix, an expensively staged action set piece in a film, or a piece of ballistic gel ala Mythbusters, if it gooes BOOM it's popular.

A host of people have taken this to heart and combined firey-doom with server grade hardware, and the excitingly-named Datacenterknowledge.com have gathered together a little something they like to call The Gallery of Exploding Servers.

Some of this is marketing spiel (think Will it Blend, but with datacenter storage racks and C4), some nothing more than taking revenge on cantankeous hardware with fireworks, but it's all entertaining.

Now that's how to test hardware.

Speaking of hardware, here's a link to what can happen when your servers actually work!

And yet another example of the culture of conspicuous consumption and waste. I could've done SOMETHING with that box!
