Thermaltake re-invents the PC case

Cebit 09: Thermaltake takes the best in show award, with a stunning work of case design.

There is often a product that as soon as you see it, you know it is the best product of the show you are at. This CeBit, the one that made me sit up and take notice was the Thermaltake Level 10 case, by far the best thing at the show.

The case is being kept under wraps at the Thermaltake booth, but if you act quickly when the PR folk are not looking, you can get a glimpse of the next big thing in cases. Just watch out for the 'no photos' sign; it's really reflective and screws up pictures.

If you think the Level 10 looks good from the side, look at it from the front. Have you ever seen anything that looks like this? Anything close? All I can say is wow. Wow, and damn nice.

The idea behind it was to break up the case into it's elements, packaging those in a new and elegant form factor. Unless you are blind, you will see that they hit both marks dead on. Thermaltake did right in a way that very few companies do any more, and the results stood out as a clear best in the show.

Other than that, they won't say much; this is just a sneak preview. It will be a very limited edition case meant to promote their 10th anniversary, and I think it will do that well. The official unveiling is at Computex in a couple of months, so look for specs (and a lot more photos) then. When it comes out, there won't be many, and it will probably be very expensive. And worth every cent.

The line starts behind us.

it's different!

But i'd put it in the "designed to be ugly" catergory

I really like it. It has a very noir sci-fi feel.

Looks like it'll roast all your components individually.

Where's the airflow?

Yeah, that's bang on Maxxie. Very cyberpunk.

I agree with orcone. Could be a case of murder / suicide for all your bits. Heat up!! Unless there is some savvy water cooling system we can't see in there....

Airflow?

It'll all be heatpipes.

The chassis obviously opens, presumbably folding down and holding the MB, and each component nestled in its own heat-piping system, which I imagine then routes through the stabilising fin at the bottom and the grills at the top.

You can see radiators between each of the HDD cases as well.

This a.. different.. cooling design, allowing for lower ambient case temperature, and targeted focus on the overly hot areas.

You can also still see an air intake on the PS.

I want one.

Yeah, I've with Vanna - I think this thing can really work. You can clearly see the intakes there, and I think the more enclosed structures will help with cooling, rather than hindering.

Of course, we've already contacted our local TT pusher, and have BEGGED for as early a look at this case as humanly possible :)

It's got an integrated carrying handle? 'Bout bloody time...

And not that I'm overly fussy, but turn the USB ports 90 degrees (FOUR at the front??), few tins of appropriate spray paint, lop off the small foot area on the right-hand side of the case, fiddle the front long red stripe as a thermometer (or both as thermometers) and I'd easily find a caring home for one or two...

Looks like it was designed by a Building Architect, not Thermaltake.

Different. Weird. I will most likely stick to a normal case though.

Looks like a Star Trek design.

Personally I really love this case - it's the kind of thing that modders spend so many hours of work on, and great to see a company taking ideas from the modders (even if they don't credit them all the time).

It's going to be a limited run so they won't be so common as to reduce their cool (I hope), and I've asked Thermaltake Australia to put Atomic on the top of the list for the very first review sample.

Stay tuned for a (huge) first look on the case, soon as we get it in!

Looks very sci-fi which is great. Though I agree with the murder / suicide comments. If done well with the compartmentalization and heat movement / transfer it could be an excellent case.
I hope it's not cheap flimsy plastic, if all metal that would be great!

I'm not totally sold on the style and design.

It's so ugly it must work like a dream something that ugly it has to be a dream to use, well so you would think hey. I would still have one just to be really different to the norm.:-).
