Time to rock out with your Axe out, thanks to Atari and... Gene Simmons?!?

There comes a time in every rock star's career when they cross over from being an icon of anarchic musicality and become, instead, a has been cashing in on glories past. It could be argued that Gene Simmons made this leap some time ago, but if he hadn't before... he certainly has now.

Thanks to the AXE wirless guitar controller.

As controllers go, we gotta say - it looks pretty keen. But what really turns us off is Gene Simmons' own effusiveness at his masterwork.

"I never do anything half way. My AXE controller is the closest thing you can have to being onstage in KISS. I created and designed the Gene Simmons AXE bass guitar and I can't wait for the fans to experience it for themselves", said the mighty-tongued ex KISS bassist. "The Gene Simmons AXE guitar is such a recognisable symbol - people have been asking for a gaming replica ever since Guitar Hero was first introduced."

Giant rockstar egos aside, the controller itself is a wireless, three quarter scaled replica of the original Axe bass, and is compatible with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. It'll hit the stage in April of this year.

Rock.

It looks too much like an axe...oh wait it's supposed too.

Well it's definitely cooler than the standard GH guitar. And it's related to KISS. I like.

Can we get some more info on this? Who is the distributor in Australia, if indeed there is one? Any idea on price?

Well, after contacting EB via their Website, it turns out Activision Australia are the distributors, and the PS3/Wii Version is being released in April for $119.95
