Star Wars TV show moving forward

Casting seems to be heating up for the much talked about live-action Stars Wars television show. Dare we get excited?

Okay. Some news that's been a long time coming, and has caused us to buy a special chair to sit down on. It seems that the long-mooted Star Wars TV show is moving ahead. And not the underrated animated Clone Wars show, either. This is the live action programme that George Lucas has nattered about every now and then.

This is very good news.

The reason it's come to light is because of a report over at MTV, where it reports that Rose Byrne, on the promotional tour for the Nicolas Cage vehicle Knowing, has let slip that casting has begun. She's quoted as saying that "a lot of my friends have been auditioning for it."

The timing for this seems right, too. Lucas first brought up the TV show in the midst of the Revenge Of The Sith junkets and promotions, and it's understood that he's been beavering away on scripts for the new show. His plan is, according to the MTV piece, to film a full season run before he'll find anyone to show it, although we can't imagine that there'll be a shortage of takers for it. It does mean, though, that we'll have to wait ages to see what the bearded one has come up with now.

Still, at least there's still Clone Wars...

FYI: It's called 'The Clone Wars', not 'Clone Wars'. Clone Wars and The Clone Wars are two completely separate series - Clone Wars was 2D, The Clone Wars is 3D.
Now that we've cleared that up, this is great. I also heard they were looking at a Sydney shoot (like Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). If they do go with Sydney, I am so flying up there to get a gig as an extra.
I've also heard that it won't feature Vader or Luke. And that it would have a lot to do with the life of droids (probably R2 and 3PO) - and that could give a new meaning to the line "No more adventures" in A New Hope, as spoken by C3PO.
It's also rumored that we'll see some Starkiller action. Yay!
George is also saying it'll be more like the originals than the prequels.
Anyhow, you can read more about it at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_live-action_TV_series

May the Force blow your mind

What timeline will this show be based on?

Sounds like it's going to be another stuff up. The only good thing about Star Wars was Episodes IV-VI and most of the Star Wars books.

Everyone has strong opinions on what they do or don't like about stars wars (if they like it at all).

This show is going to fail so many people instantly, because it simply can't please all of them.

But there will be a lot of people that it will satisfy, definitely enough for it to do stupidly well.

MR LUCAS. I hate you for The Clone Wars. Please don't screw this up, or I will hunt you down and do evil things to you.

There is no Star Wars 7, 8 or 9. These are not the movies you are looking for...

Now Star Trek 7, 8 and 9 exist, with your sig I guess you already knew that :)

I think Lucas is telling a little white lie there - he was much more passionate about making 7, 8 and 9 back in the eighties.

That said, if you want to a good stand in for that last trilogy, read Timothy Zahn's Star Wars Thrawn trilogy. Great stuff.

There will be no 7, 8, & 9. Why? Because at their core, the 6 films are the story of Anakin Skywalker. No more, no less. And that story is complete.
The expanded universe tells other stories, stories that the movies just don't have the scope to tell.
