Scientists in Washington recently created a sixth state of matter, Fermionic condensate, after gases, liquids, plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate. This new breakthrough could lead to the development of more efficient superconductors and trains (of all things).
Deborah Jin, a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (a joint lab with the University of Colorado) says '. . .it is related to Bose-Einstein condensate. It's not a superconductor but it is really something in between these two that may help us in science link these two interesting behaviours.'
Now all they need to do is update and revise countless millions of school textbooks!
