Heads-up: Are you pimping enough to win Thermaltake's Ghetto Modding comp?
Anyone can take ten thousand bucks to a store, buy themselves a bootload of the latest high-end gear and then get it custom powdercoated, sleeved and watercooled - but it takes a special kind of person to take the crappiest gear and make something special.
These kinds of mods aren't anything new and for years people have been modding their own heatsinks/radiators, piping their air conditioner directly into the case, building their backup rig into a suitcase for convenience's sake and a host of other such wacky mods.
Thermaltake have not only recognised these cable-tying duct-taping MacGuyver-esque people, but they've got a competition on as well to find the most ghetto and original mod.
It isn't just modding for the sake of it, and their press release shows pretty plainly what they want you to do:
After reading through the feedback across many forums we noticed that many mentioned the previous competition was a bit unfair giving a brand new PC to someone who already has a kick ass custom system. There were a few suggestions made for a new competition and we've adopted one of the most popular ideas. GHETTO MODS!
The general rule to keep in mind; CHEAP and WORKING. If the system or the mod in question does not actually work then the entry will be disqualified.
They're even going to award extra points for incredibly old tech that still works in whatever shonky arrangement it's installed in, so get your budget and slash it, then give it a go!
To enter, just head to their forums and make yourself a thread in the correct subsection, as well as system specs, a description of your theme/direction/purpose and some pictures of your rig.
Prizes are impressive too, and are as follows:
It's open to anyone living in Australia, so head over to Thermaltake's site to read exactly what they're after, and remember to post your ghetto mod on Atomic's forums too - we're equally as interested in what you have done!
Update: Thanks to Thermaltake's kindness (of which we're almost convinced is boundless), the comp is open to Australia and New Zealand! Hooray!
