Ridley Scott sees footage of James Cameron's Avatar and says "Me Too!".
We've known for a while that Ridley Scott, star director of Bladerunner, Gladiator and Blackhawk Down, is starting to return to his science fiction roots. Last year he announced that not only is he working on a film based on Aldous Huxley's dystopic novel Brave New World, but also on Joe Haldeman's military SF classic The Forever War.
Now, after seeing some early footage of Avatar courtesy of his pal James Cameron, Scott is hooked on the 3D technology that Cameron's been touting for years.
"I've got a good writer doing it," Scott recently told fans at a Bladerunner Day celebration in the UK. "I've seen some of James Cameron's work [on Avatar], and I've got to go 3D. It's going to be phenomenal."
That's some pretty high praise for Avatar, and exciting news for fans of Scott's exciting visual style. Filming will start on The Forever War once Scott wraps up his current project, Robin Hood (which recently had a name change from Nottinghom, starring Russell Crowe.
Speaking of which, here's the first shot of Rusty as Robin.
That's a nice and gritty looking Robin Hood right there!
