Assassin's Creed 2 coming this year

Video: News on the just announced Assassin's Creed 2, plus teaser trailer.

Assassin's Creed was a game that launched to great hype and mixed reviews - it had some stunning gameplay elements, but suffered from some repetitive tasking and a lack of depth. Nonetheless, we still fire it up every now and then, as the sense of speed and movement in the game is unsurpassed. Now, with the announcement that Assassin's Creed 2 will hit shelves sometime toward the end of the year, we're starting to get excited all over again.

Coming in time - hopefully - for Christmas, AC2  invites players to incarnate Ezio, a young noble in Renaissance Italy who's been betrayed by rival families. The game follows Ezio's quest for vengeanceand offers a greater variety in missions, new gameplay elements, diverse weapons and a an apparently 'profound' character progression.

"Our creative team is working hard to top the experience of Assassin's Creed," said Patrice Desilets, creative director at Ubisoft and all round nice guy (we met him at an event for the first game). "We've made improvements to every aspect of the game. And we've plunged ourselves into the stunning history of the Italian Renaissance so that we can offer fans a unique, varied and innovative Assassin's Creed experience."

It certainly sounds like the team is trying to learn from its mistakes. We still feel the promise of Assassin's Creed far outweighed the flaws, and hopefully the sequel will be a tighter experience in every way.

And here's the teaser trailer:

Okay, not much in the way of gameplay, but we're intrigued nonetheless.

Yo Marl you should buy the first Assassins Creed before you play the second one because the first and second games will tie into each other you wont understand some of the stuff in the second one with out the first one to refrance off. but if your just looking to play and dont care about the story line or understanding it then you could go and just play the second one but to understand it you should really play the first one i beat it on all the diffuculties 100% I think it was a great game it was one of the best games i played in a while so you should go play the the first one just cause its cool.
