Windows 7 release candidate due Thursday

Ready for download via Technet, rest of world gets the new OS in May.

Microsoft has said it will be ready to make its Windows 7 release candidate available on its Technet or Microsoft Download Networks from April 30.

Microsoft's Windows 7 manager, Brandon Le Blanc, bogged that subscribers will be able to download the release candidate from this Thursday, while anyone else will have to wait until May 5.

LeBlanc said devs have been busy analysing feedback from beta testers, fixing bugs, and "working hard to improve the overall experience".

He said MS had been receiving a 'Send Feedback' report "every 15 seconds for an entire week."

I hope this isn't a repeat of the Beta dramas that we faced, not being able to get a key due to overwhelming demand.

Let's just hope that these problems are behine us and Microsoft now.

I read somewhere that Win7 is not due until 2010 fiscal year. So this could be a long series of Beta testing.

im not sure but i think the release candidate is a final version which is released before the gold is printed and sold... its a last chance to catch the bugs that may be still hanging around before they release them upon the WORLD!!!(sorry to sound dramatic lol)

'...Brandon Le Blanc, bogged that subscribers will be able to...'

Wow, his turds told you this? Amazing!

In all seriousness, this sounds interesting.

Trekker, Release Candidate means that it could potentially be the version that is released as the end product, and sold.

If this release Candidate is released as the "End Product" why is it Free? Is Win7 a Free version, Or do we get HUGE bill for using it.

codecreeper: *facepalm* It's free so it can be groomed for bugs and stress tested BEFORE the "End Product" goes gold (aka RTM).

Okay I'm going to clear this up for people - Release Candidate is between Beta and final release. It means the final product is almost ready.
Also, codecreeper: Windows 7 is due later this year. And Windows 7 will cost money. But RC1 is free, just like the beta. This is so that users can test it out and report any issues to Microsoft so that Microsoft can fix it before it is released. Like the beta, RC1's license will expire before Windows 7 is released, so don't think that you get the OS for free forever. But you will for a while :)

Ok. I think I can narrow it down a bit more.

Alpha and Beta version does not contain all parts of the software. Release Candidate contain all parts of the software that will be release in the final version.

It's just a bit buggy ;) (Just like the final release ay)
