Essential Linkage: Students make tool to make older Atari games pretty again.
We did a very general look at how to make older low-res games look good about a week ago, but just today students have created a program that goes that extra step - and actually does it!
With a relatively indepth analysis of just how the scaling works, as well as the problems they found going from CRT to LCD, it's definitely worth a read.
Interestingly they've even managed to emulate the afterimage effect of phosphor glow, colour bleeding and even the noise from the RF signal:
Many of today's players may only experience Atari games in emulation. Indeed, many of my students may have little to no memory of CRT televisions at all.
It's certainly an admirable goal, so head over to Georgia Tech to read just what they've managed to do.
