Pirate Party goes from strength to strength

Sweden's Pirate Party could be heading to European Union representation.

The prosecution of Pirate Bay seems to have prompted more Swedes to support the Pirate Party, according to a new opinion poll.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Swedish Pirate Party, whose platform calls for legalising Internet file-sharing, could win a seat in the European Parliament in June. The Music and Movie Mafiaa really would not want to see that.

The survey of about 1,500 people showed the Pirate Party with 5.1 per cent support. It needs the support of only four per cent of the Swedish electorate to gain a seat in the European Parliament. The poll's margin of error was 1.8 per cent.
