Prototype's opening cinematic is full of action and gibs

Video: Alex Mercer is an angry young man in Prototype's opening cinematic. And he's not afraid to show it.

2009 could be turning into the year of the open world action game, with some stellar titles coming up allowing players free reign to screw shit up in vast open cities. We've got inFamous on PS3 (which we've played a bit of, and it's good), Assassin's Creed 2 at the end of the year and even Red Dead Redemption is looking pretty tight. But it's Radical's Prototype that's really been getting us excited - and we've got the opening cinematic to share with you.

Prototype follows the bloody and gib-tastic adventures of Alex Mercer, a young man with a nasty new set of superpowers - only he has no idea who's done this to him, or what it has to do with the infection spreading through New York.

But he's very keen to find out, as the cinematic shows. Oh, and if the inside of people being visible from the outside is at all not your thing, you may not want to click the video below...

Nasty - but still fun looking! Prototype hits shelves early next month, and will be available on all major platforms.

Watch it without audio, this "Alex" is just some dick running around with god-mode on, thinking he's cool.

I wonder just how much they are going to "edit it" for Australia's fragile eyes. It was mentioned by Radical Entertainment that they would be toning it down for the Aus release but have not heard anything else about it.

I guess that I will just have to look OS for the uncut version.

That's a really good question, actually - a lot of devs are pretty reluctant to get into that sort of thing, but I'll see what I can find out.

the shape shifting is awesome and the concept is wicked now if only the swine flu was something more than just running noses we wudnt need to have a turned down version of games to worry about...

Now that looks cool ! Shame well get a lame kiddies version. If it is as good as the video, it should be fun.

Heh, it appears the rating (and my memory) is old news :)

Looks pretty sweet.
I'll be interested to see the final thing in action.
(And yeah, it'll be an OS version if its censored for here *again*.)
