The world's most powerful desk

Essential Linkage: A custom built PC desk - literally!

We love modding around Atomic, and we love desks for the simple reason that they hold all our precious tech ever so well on their hard, opaque surfaces.

Well apparently that wasn't enough for Popular Mechanics, as they took both ideas of a highend computer and a fancy desk to fuse them together and create something they've entitled "The Quad-Core, 1-kW, Liquid-Cooled Desk", for reasons that should be relatively clear.

They crammed the following tech into a custom aluminium/perspex desk:

All that tech was painstakingly built into a desk, which even includes a trackpad! Sure it's a little expensive, but this kind of crazy idea is actually maddeningly brilliant too, so head over to their site to check out pics and how they threw it all together.

Sadly no benchmark info is mentioned, but the specs all equate to one seriously powerful desk!

I'd hate to sit at that desk with a nasty hangover. Have to say, I'd replace the touchpad with a touch-screen, for added swank.

Bit heavy to carry to the lan, but the looks once you got it there would be worth it!

Great space saving idea although the LED lighting would give me the shits over time. I would have put a switch in so I could turn them on our off. Apart from that, I love it.

that is just such a good idea. The only thing I'd do substantially different is make the thing mostly out of wood, with selective use of glass/plastic.
