Essential Linkage: A custom built PC desk - literally!

We love modding around Atomic, and we love desks for the simple reason that they hold all our precious tech ever so well on their hard, opaque surfaces.

Well apparently that wasn't enough for Popular Mechanics, as they took both ideas of a highend computer and a fancy desk to fuse them together and create something they've entitled "The Quad-Core, 1-kW, Liquid-Cooled Desk", for reasons that should be relatively clear.

They crammed the following tech into a custom aluminium/perspex desk:

• XFX 790i motherboard
• Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 kit
• Intel Quad QX9650
• Palit GTX280 w/ Danger Den Tieton waterblock
• 2x 300GB Western Digital Velociraptor 10,000rpm HDDs
• Antec Quattro 1000W PSU
• Fifteen feet of watercooling, triple rad
• Six blue cold cathode lights
• Custom translucent trackpad

All that tech was painstakingly built into a desk, which even includes a trackpad! Sure it's a little expensive, but this kind of crazy idea is actually maddeningly brilliant too, so head over to their site to check out pics and how they threw it all together.

Sadly no benchmark info is mentioned, but the specs all equate to one seriously powerful desk!
