THQ and Relic announce Warhammer 40,000 action RPG

Video: Warhammer 40k: Space Marine announced, along with a teaser trailer. For the Emperor!

Disclaimer time: you could pin a Warhammer logo on an empty cardboard box and I'd probably get excited. So, describing just how excited I am by the announcemnt of THQ and Relic's new Warhammer 40k title, Space Marine, is going to be tough. But I'll try.

OMGIGODDITSSPACEMARINES AND YOUPLAY ANUATRAMAINRE ANAI I...

Okay, clearly, that's just not working.

Deep breaths, Hollingworth, deep breaths. That's better. Space Marine is a 3rd person action RPG, tending more to that chainsword spitting bloody chunks of xenos action than the RPG side, but we're hoping there are some good RPG elements to flesh out the gameplay. Early enemies look to be Orks and the insidious Tyranids... hmm... bugs... and we've got an early teaser trailer to share the Emperor's love.

Oh my. I think I need to change my pants. There's no release date as yet, but we'll keep you informed. The game will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3.

MMmmmmm...I really hope this is good. I REALLY hope this is good.

I'd love a "Gears of War" style game in the 40K universe, but as was pointed out to me yesterday, this looks a little more hand-to-hand to work in that game-style.

At any rate...Relic's not fucked up yet and I know this is a jump from the RTS stuff they're known for but fingers crossed they bring the same love to 3rd-person action.

Will they also be releasing a version for the other races (at least Ork and Tyranids as they are in this version)?

mark84 and LordBug I TOTALLY agree.
Consoles are for pussies!!!!! Real Gamers play on PC. Its not very PC to say that, but I play on PC so I dont need to be PC.

1. No PC. Damn it. It'll probably come out on PC a while later anyway (It better! *shakes fist*).

2. Over representation of space marines anyone? DoW II only has a Space Marine campaign, and now this? Come on, of all the War40K players I know (very few), one plays Tyranids, two play Eldar, one plays Chaos, and one plays Dark Eldar. No Space Marine players. There are stacks of 40K races, so what's with the unfair focus on Space Marines?

lg, I'd say your friends are VERY unrepresentative of the greater 40k population. At most tournaments I've been to at least 75 per cent of the armies are marines. They're also the highest selling miniature range. They are the superhuman defenders of humanity - kinda hard to beat!

I'm just glad I've got my 360 :)

AAAHHHHOOOMMMMGGGAAAAHHHHHH

Im sorry but that needed to be said. And as much as i would like to see the imperium crumble at my hands, i still find that kickass.

Unfortunaltey the chaos gods have failed me and not releasing it on pc.

Oh and lg9142, does it really surprsie you that the main characters of the 40k story are the ones that are most comonly featured. For the most part, the 40k world revolves around them.
tyrandis vs space, chaos vs space, etc

It also doesnt help that they are simple to paint and are simple to play with.

This looks, and sounds, like lots of fun. Just wish it wasn't the ultrasmurfs and was a more interesting chapter. Dark Angels or Blood Angels anyone?

Pah, WH fantasy is Much better. ;{p
But yes, it may just be fun. Wonder if they could support an online version as per fantasy?

Ah well, might be time to pickup a 360...

They're going for less than a high end video card these days ;)

I wonder if this could be very clever modification of the Essence engine, could be quite awsome :D

But why on earth is it not being release on PC? I can never get the hang of console controlers *cry*

All the RP it needs is you scream "FOR THE EMPEROR" at the top of your lungs at the screen while Orcs turn to gibs.

What's wrong with the Ultramarines?!?

it definately has chaos in it as well. saw a video ages ago showing them, gameplay looks very very fast. space marines make up 80% or so of gamesworkshop sales and the ultramarines are the most popular of the marine chapters as kids love them. also ultramarines ahave an awesome background as based of roman life unlike blood angels (vampirtes, yawn) or dark angels they wear skirts and are a bunch of heretics) space wolves are jus tbarbarians in space although my fave chapter still dull. ultramarines will always be the best represented chapter ina game as they are so popular.

And don't forget Roboutte Gouliman - he literally wrote the book on Imperial warfare. And he held the Imperium together after the Horus Heresy.

As to the Ultras themselves, all I can say is: First Company, defence of the Ultramar polar fortress during a major Tyranid invasion. That's some heroism right there.

ULTRA!

"The strong will always enslave the weak. Where the strong make their own fate, the weak bow their heads and succumb. There are few who are strong and many are their enemies, and the greatest of those enemies is the False Emperor of Mankind. Destroy the followers of the False Emperor and revel in their cries for mercy - their weakness can only be eradicated by their sacrifices to the gods of Chaos."

We are the Ultramarines, the Sons of Guilliman. Whilst we draw breath, we stand. Whilst we stand, we fight. Whilst we fight, we prevail. Nothing shall stay our wrath.

Ah good. Another follower for mighty Khorne, another to shed blood amongst the stars. You are too proud and sure of yourself to resist the taint of chaos. Your chapter of a mere thousand is nothing compared to the might of the legions of chaos.

While you fight for blood and carnage to no end, we fight for the Emperor. We are humanity's sword made flesh, retribution itself made manifest in steel and ceramite and adamantium.

We are the Angels of Death... and nothing shall stay our wrath.

(heh - I think we need to take this to the tabletop, Argotha - challenge match!)

Carnage for the Chaos Gods is the end, and carnage is the means. We are humanity's flesh made sword and we shall reap the universe for the dark gods.

On the far side of the galaxy, far from your homeworld, we reside and it will take more than threats for you to drive us from this world into the next. But alas, it will be you who will see us destroy your maker.

(My steel warriors will destroy you, (when i finish painting them), though the fight may have to wait, conquroing the imperium of man is alot easier than year 12 :(

How on Terra did I miss this?!?!? Just watched the trailer with my now 13 year-old son (b'day yesterday) and we were both drooling. He plays Raven Guard and we're doing a joint Nurgle CSM army, as well as the Planetstrike gear he got yesterday.
He would say “Victorus aut Mortis” (I think the RG battle cry should be "Boo!"), My Death Skullz Warboss suggests "WAAAAAAGH!"
