Total Recall gets a writer

The TR reboot gets a scribe, but we're not sure if the news is good or downright dire.

One of my favourite guilty-pleasure films is Equilibrium, a dystopic sci-fi piece starring a pre-Batman Christian Bale as a kick-arse enforcer of the Orwellian values of his depotic overlord. It also had some damn cool action sequences, long leather coats, and Sean Bean.

What's not to love?

Conversely, a film that's not any kind of pleasure, guilty or otherwise, is Ultraviolet, a hamfisted, insanely coloured futuristic vampire sci-fi mish-mash that has pretty much nothing going for it.

Both films are the written and directed work of one Kurt Wimmer, and he's the man that The Hollywood Reporter's just announced is going to write the reboot of Total Recall.

Hmm.

On the one hand... Equilibrium, a clever and well-plotted little action gem. On the other hand... Ultravoilet, a film so shit even a scantily-clad Milla Jovovich can't save it. And that's not even considering the fact that Total Recall hardly needs a remake in the first place!

We just don't know what to think.

I know technically why 'Empire: Total War' is in the related articles, but for a fleeting second I thought there might've been a tie in.

Mars: Total War?

Is it a remake of TR or another movie based on the Dick story?

And, TC?

I wonder if he'll steal ideas from Total Recall 2070? Not a bad show though it's more Blade Runner than Recall.

I love Equilibrium. I thought Ultraviolet was vaguely okay.

DoHi: That's because Total Recall 2070 was based on ideas from both "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" and "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" - the former being the book on which the movie Total Recall is based, and the latter being the book on which Blade Runner is based. I wouldn't mind if they threw some Blade Runner into this remake.

Not going to be much without Arnie. Any movie based on an a movie with Arnie in it is going to be missing the most vital component.

I concur. It is completely unnecessary to create a remake of Total Recall.
Why can't they wait at least 50 years before stealing ideas from their own freakin library!

How about making something original - like an Iain M Banks Culture novel into a movie?! Or one of MY screenplays for crying out loud!!
