Video: Beat up Cold War Russians and listen to Mickey Rourke's best tough guy voice in Rogue Warrior.
Here's an odd one - Rogue Warrior, a game by Rebellion Studios and based on the real life Navy Seal Richard Marcinko. The game's been on the radar for some time (and was in fact meant to be out already), but E3's brought us up to date news on the title and the first trailer.
Marcinko is a real life oddity - after two tours of Vietnam as a Seal Team commander, he was involved in the disastrous Iran hostage crisis. Following the failed rescue operation, he was tasked with creating a dedicated counter-terrorism unit. Which he did. Following that, he hand-picked a team known as Red Cell to test the security of US military installations.
These days he's a writer, security consultant, and an advisor to the TV show 24.
Rogue Warrior (which is also the title of Marcinko's autobiography) lets gamers step into Marcinko's combat boots as he goes toe to toe with those nasty Russians during the height of the Cold War. It's reported to be a gritty and brutal FPS, with lots of nasty takedowns and questionable right-wing values.
The trailer is light on gameplay, but heavy on shooting Russkies.
The game could be good, but with a character like Marcinko at the heart of it we can only wonder who developers will laud next - G Gordon Liddy? Oliver Stone? Oh, how about a sniper game starring Lee Harvey Oswald!?!?
Oh, and yeah, that voice? That's Mickey Rourke, who'll be voicing Marcinko in the game.
Rogue Warrior is out on all major platforms sometime this southern Spring.
