Core i5 sounds interesting on paper...
Intel's current highend Core i7 chips look to be not quite replaced, but rather detracted from, given the launch of Intel's next midrange Core i5 chips.
The CPUs appear to be quite affordable, thanks to some new information leaked through the interweb sieve that we suggest you take with one large grain of salt - but rumours have proven true in the past.
A table over at TweakTown shows a lowend Core i5-750 processor with a base speed of 2.66GHz, 8MB of L3 cache and support for DDR3, but interestingly has a Turbo Boost speed of up to 3.2GHz, much more than the current 1x multi increase of the Core i7.
This is probably attributed to the much lower TDP of 95W, and the price also seems low at US$196. If this lowend CPU can rocket as fast as the Core i7 920 can, there's every reason to suggest this will be a great overclocking chip.
There's also information on two other other chips there, and while they're all due for release on September 9th this year we can also see two more chips for next year; albeit lower-powered versions with low TDPs.
Check the table of Core i5 chips below courtesy of TweakTown and post below with your thoughts - can these be the actual specs of the chips?
