Asus cancels its first USB 3.0 motherboard

And ASUS won't say why...

ASUS has told us that the world's first USB 3.0 based motherboard, its P6X58, has been cancelled with no real explanation as to why.

World plus dog cheered the arrival of the world's first USB 3.0 motherboard last week.

But now Asus informs us it has cancelled its P6X58 USB 3.0 motherboard. It has ceased to be, expired and gone to meet its maker, shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible.

We tried to find out why the board has been cut, as the interest in its arrival had been so high. However, the only explanation we got from an Asus spokesperson was that it's been cancelled "not for any particularly interesting reasons."

The company added "Asus have [sic] got some interesting developments technology wise, we'll keep you updated when they're announced." Which doesn't explain the company's reasoning for having killed the P6X58 in its prime, or rather, even before it ever had a prime.

We're guessing that Asus might be holding out for a better chipset, possibly aiming for another feature-rich motherboard to launch USB 3.0, or maybe it's just waiting to see what everyone else does.

Fujitsu could be one that Asus is keeping its eye on, as the Japanese computer manufacturing giant has just announced that its upcoming motherboards will have USB 3.0.

Been cancelled "not for any particularly interesting reasons."

Clever use of reverse psychology. Any conspiracy theorist knows there would have to be more behind it.

My bet that it was cancelled because it's an obvious part in the construction of Skynet and the board when used gained sentience and control over the testing grounds.

Thus China's position on Taiwan. Has nothing to do with territory, and more to do with preventing Robots taking over the the world.

I was reading about the fun involved in making the USB3 connectors backwards compatible, it was only a moderate success. :(

No BC = phail. Like the three-prong "kettle plug" power socket, USB BC is too important to get wrong!

That or there's been a change to the design of USB3. Not to mention, are there even any USB3.0 products coming out? eSATA seems to have stolen the limelight, given it's technology we already have.

Does anyone know who's producing the USB3 chips? I'm assuming it's not integrated into the southbridge.

I thought I heard around the boards that the current USB3 chips were suffering from some pretty high heat problems.
