Gamers will soon get to play wirelessly with a triband router that can be five times faster than similar traditional devices, according to manufacturer Ubicom.
Unveiled at Computex, the 802.11a/b/g router boasts a throughput of over 90Mb/s and a extensive security features including a NAT firewall, WEP, WPA, VPN-passthrough and MAC address authentication.
'Consumers today expect fast response times when playing multiplayer Internet games, as well as glitch-free radio, voice over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing,' said Glenn Schuster, vice president of marketing for Ubicom.
The router can also act as a USB print server, and according to Shulster, can be extended to 'basic internet, email processing and file sharing.'
Ubicom has based the router on its IP3023 wireless network processor and software platform, and its Gamer QoS technology.
The company said that the device is being demonstrated in a private suite this week during Computex in Taipei, and that it will available as part of the company's IP3000 Software Development Kit (SDK), v6.3 release.
Ubicom said that sampling is available in June, and more information can be found at www.ubicom.com.
