New trailer for Empire's Napoleon expansion

Video: Get a taste of the CGI action in this latest addition to the Total War franchise - Napoleon!

If you're anything like me, you would have played Empire: Total War and felt the incredible lack of only being able to take your mighty nation up to the yaer 1800. With the Napoleonic era just around the corner, it seemed like the ulitmate tease to wargamers wanting to experience some of history's greatest battles in Total War's stunning engine.

But, with last week's announcement of Napoleon: Total War, we're going to get what we've been wishing for.

The game lets you put on the Sicilian Ogre's little shoes (or his opponent's wellies!) in three campaigns - in Italy, in Russia, and in Egypt. The Russian campaign apparently leads up to the battle of Waterloo, so we can only imagine it covers a lot more of Europe as well.

If only there were a Grand Campaign, where you could simply decide NOT to invade Russia. Really, it's like crack to dictator! And it looks like this is one dictator that loves his crack...

Napoleon: Total War will be available on PC in February next year.

Invading Russia is so easy. As long as you cut off their trade routes and supplies, you pretty much starve them and it affects the strength of their armies in the end.

Total War is like the graphic novel adaptation of Archer Jones' 'The Art of War in the Western World'. I cannot wait for the next installment. Empire was a definite improvement on Rome and its addons. Now we are clearly battling forward to the modern world. I say, Huzzah! I hope they are able to incorporate the long game into a multiplayer, for then it would be perfect. I think I could take Russia, and hold it.

As much as I think Napoleon will be awesome, I would love to see Creative Assembly do a Total War game based on the American Civil War.

Imagine it: the first use of machines guns on the battlefield, Napoleonic tactics with rifled muskets, vast troop movements via rail, ironclads and massive sieges. Plus, Gettysburg + TW engine = pants-changing.

lol David it would be alright but I really want to see a total war game based on world war 1 tactics and then world war 2 tactics, can you imagine it? commanding vast armada's of German panzers and dreadnoughts in real time now that is what i call pants changing.

Invading Russia on a video game is easy medicinebaby, I destroyed Russia in about 2.5years as the british but thats because its AI, human brains are not so easy to conquer im afraid and Russia's vastness gives them a tactical superiority no other country in those wars had. Remember there is more to war than just beating their armies, the further away from home your army gets the longer your line of supply gets (barbarosa anyone?) and the shorter the defenders supply lines get giving them another key tactical advantage.

We should start a thread and argue about war tactics.

I am wondering exactly how far they can go with the Total War series in terms of the timescale. Personally I think you can go about as far as 1918 with the current game style.

After that it is more about smaller unit concentrations and mobility than massed forces in a line with artillery. Furthermore working tactical let alone strategic airpower into it would be a distinct challenge.

WW1 Total War I can see, WW2 Total War I can't if they try and keep the game as is. Although I'm with David, this current incarnation is begging for an American Revolution expansion pack.

no game has ever made me as giddy as Rome Total War and id love for that affect to be repeated. If Total War was able to adapt and change to suit a playing style of WW2 (or future warfare?) then CoH and DoW2 would have some serious competition! bring it on!!!
