Indiana Jones 5 story is ready to go

Harrison Ford confirms that the next Indiana Jones adventure is one step closer.

Since most of the world's cinematic viewing population shared a collective WTF when the final reel of Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull played out before their eyes (and even we regret our positive review - that's nostalgia for you! -ed), the speculation has been rife that a further adventure for the man in the hat was likely. After all, in spite of it being comfortably the worst film in the saga to date, Crystal Skull still made a staggering amount of money, more than any other Indiana Jones film, and it offered the kind of future payday that Messrs Ford, Spielberg and Lucas were unlikely to resist.

Considering that it took the best part of two decades to come up with the story for Crystal Skull, at least if you believe all the noises being made in the run-up to the film's release, it's something of a miracle therefore to hear Harrison Ford suggest that the story for Indy 5 is pretty much in place.

Talking to Le Figaro in France, Ford had this to say:

"The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I'll be very happy to put the costume on again."

This is, to be fair, what appeared to be the case back in June, when Shia LaBeouf was quoted as saying with regard to Indy 5, "Steven [Spielberg] just said that he cracked the story on it, I think they're gearing that up."

If the story is sorted, then you'd imagine the film still has a good year of screenwriting ahead of it if the last film is any guidance. But could it then go into production to join the crush of projects lining up for release in 2011? We suspect 2012 is more likely, but we'll bring you more news as we get it...

I hope they fuck off with the aliens bullshit and nuclear bomb-proof fridges, and give us the Excalibur story they were teasing us with prior to the abysmal mess that was Indy IV.

The second one with the blonde was the worst indy to date.

"Temple of Doom" *is* a very lagging third in the...ugh..."quadrilogy", BC.

I like temple of doom and I rate it highly. As a kid I enjoyed that immensely... same with return of the jedi. I guess I have a problem :P

Anyways I Just rented out raiders of the lost ark - timing!

INDY IV deserves its last spot. I didn't really like the mutt character and the aliens crap. everything else i could live with, even the fridge and the swinging vines moment...

How exactly can you review something positively and then regret it later?

There are only 2 real reasons that could happen
a) You were paid off to give a good review
b) You actually DO like the movie, but are bending to peer pressure to dislike it

If you can think of another reason then let me know! :P

well, as was added by david in the article, nostalgia could have played its part...

personally i dont know what the big deal is... i mean, i enjoyed indy4 immensely, but i went into the theatre completely suspending my disbelief...

i mean, are aliens really that much more of a stretch then say, a cult leader pulling out a mans heart and burning the (still alive) man in lava, while the heart was still beating?

Or an ark full of sand melting the face off a bunch of nazis? :P

Wow, guys, chill!

Taran and Co: As I said, nostalgia really got the better of me. Indy, when I was growing up, was a hugely impactful character. I was just so thrilled to see new Indy stuff, in any form, that I was excited at just that prospect. Looking back at it, though, I really don't enjoy watching the film again.

I felt the same way when I saw Phantom Menace, too - was so excited at just seeing new Star Wars that I couldn't comprehend (immediately, anyway) the crapness. Star Wars and Indiana Jones are films I find it very hard to have any real critical distance from.

Oh... and fuck you!

Phantom Menace shat all over Indy IV.

I was chilled :P Didn't mean it badly but couldn't think of a better way to present it.

I still love phantom menace and all the star wars prequels :P

Come on - suggesting to a journalist they're on the take is pretty damn harsh!

I have a love-hate relationship with Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith - hate Phantom Menace though. And I saw it five times at the cinema!

That said, the fight between Obi Wan & Qui Gon and Maul is simply awesome.

Sorry David, didn't mean it like that, I had a Stephen Conroy moment and went to the ultimate extreme without thinking.

Indy IV beat the ever loving crap out of Phantom Menace in terms of series revival. I'm not sure how much more I can express how strongly I feel that. Let me try...

If I had a choice between watching Phantom Menace, or watching Indy IV while being raped by Tito Ortiz... I'd have to think about it.

But back to the concept of Indy V. An Excalibur movie would be about as sensible as him finding the One Ring. At least the alien/mayan thing is based on the "star people" myths of the mayans.

Indiana Jones and the retirement village of doom is finally ready to go eh.

Dear Mr Spielberg and Mr Lucas,
Stop raping my childhood.

P.S. Fricking aliens? Wrong movie farktards.

P.P.S. Will there be Nazis in the next Starwars cashgrab?

Ernest.... funny but very true.

Seriously, Indy IV was a piece of shite.

Indy 1 - 10/10, Indy 2 - 8/10, Indy 3 - 9/10, Indy 4, maybe 3/10.

It was like the worst bits of National Treasure and The Mummy had a root and produced the crap that was Indy IV.

They had better do number 5, you cant end the series with that turd of a film.

I don't get your rally against an Excalibur story, tanryl.

"At least the alien/mayan thing is based on the "star people" myths of the mayans"

...aaaannndddd Excalibur is based on the myths and legends of England. Where's the difference?

"Last Crusade" already established the link between the Indy universe and King Arthur and the round-table Knights via the Holy Grail, which to my mind was far more grounded than crystal alien skulls.

Excalibur could be a fine extension of the "Last Crusade" if done well...

Good point. Had forgotten about the grail storyline could be related to Arthur, since I don't think they ever mention the link in the movie.

I think there's a throw-away line about the Grail being sought by many through the years from King Arthur to yadda, yadda, yadda...or I could just be making shit up again...

I still hold true that we would have been so much human soup after taking a tumble in the fridge when the a-bomb went off. End of story.
